5 Money Making Tips with Adobe Photoshop

by David Peters

Adobe Photoshop is one of the most popular imaging software packages around, but it’s expensive! Here are five ways you can earn money using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements — either as a business enterprise, for some extra money, or just to recoup your investment.

1. Provide a Photo Restoration Service. Almost everyone has at least a few photos that have become damaged or have just not stood the test of time as well as others. Using Photoshop features like the Healing Brush, Spot Healing Brush and the Patch tools, these photos can be made picture perfect again.

2. Become a Photograph Doctor. No matter the ailment, from “red eye”, “pet eye”, poor exposure, or “finger over the lens syndrome” Photoshop can make over a ruined image into a faultless one. Photoshop can also change a color photograph over to look like a black and white one, or color tint a black and white one to make it color. There will always be plenty of “sick patients” to make better.

3. Design Greetings Cards. Making custom greeting cards is easier than ever with the photo enhancement and graphic design abilities of Photoshop. Enhance photos, transform them into drawings or paintings, blend photos for funny cards to name just a few of the endless possibilities. Holidays, events and other special occasions are all taken care of, even the card to say hello is covered. Card blanks and their envelopes can be found through specialist suppliers locally or online.

4. Design T-shirts. Photoshop can make that idea for a great t-shirt a reality. You can purchase transfers from stationery shops or craft stores and plain cotton t-shirts can be found through low cost suppliers.

5. Web Design. Whether it’s a full website, or just a few buttons or banners, web design is a skill that’s in demand right now. You could take commissions, or design some generic “boilerplate” designs that people can download from a website and customise themselves.

Of course, you may need to get some extra equipment — like a colour printer, scanner, and digital camera — but you can usually pick this type of equipment up inexpensively on eBay or other websites. A DVD of royalty free images is also a must — although check the terms and conditions to make sure you’re allowed to sell products derived from them.

The best advertisement comes from people. Ask friends and relatives, work associates and other connections if they or anyone they might know are in need of your services. Another option is to approach retailers with a portfolio of your work, and offer them commissions on any work they send your way.
